A Word About Wedding Favors
Wedding favors are tricky. Before you spend hundreds of dollars on wedding favors realize that not every bride uses them and they are
not required. Some wedding planners even consider them tacky. On the other hand
favors can pull double duty as table decorations and save you money and they are fun to choose and fun to make.
Personally, I like the idea of giving guests a
gift. You've already shelled out the big bucks to feed your guests dinner, plied them with alcohol, and
had a fantastic time celebrating your new life. Why not give them a little memento to top off the evening? If you decide to
give wedding favors use a bit of caution. From dozens of discussions and reading hundreds of
posts on wedding bulletin boards I have concluded that:
1. You cannot go wrong with edible favors. People always
like chocolate and Jordan Almonds. Wine, if it is within your means, is also a good
choice.
2. Generally, your guests do not want knick-knacks with your names or initials on them. We all have too much clutter and face it--your wedding is not as important to anyone else as it is to
you.
3. CDs sound like a good idea but people do not really want recordings of your favorite love songs and
wedding music.
4. If a non-edible favor is not somehow useful to your guest it will probably end up in the
trash.
5. Spend your money on the items that mean the most to you.
If your budget is very tight and favors are just another detail or a hassle-skip them. Your
guests will probably not even notice.
That said, I have put together some favor ideas that may be
useful.
1. Candles
2. Edible Favors—chocolate, candy, coffee, and wine
3. Camera Wedding Favors
4.
Useful Favors--wine stoppers, cork screws, golf tees, etc.
