Bridal Lingerie

Bridal lingerie can be a fun part of choosing what you want to wear.  Often, however, the pieces that make you look the best in your dress are not the sexiest undergarments you’ll ever wear.  You may not need anything under your dress at all depending on your figure and the design of your gown, but most of us need some sort of support or "resculpting."

If you are bigger than a B cup it is very important to have proper support.  Long-line bras, bustieres, and corsets are some good options but you want to be careful about lace, boning, and fasteners.  Some fabrics cling and show every seam in your undergarments.  Smooth stretchy fabrics in body shapers can help give you long clean lines but be sure to try them on at every dress fitting.  Shapers can be your best friend but they aren’t all created equal.  If you are targeting hips and butt be careful.  Physics demand that the fat goes somewhere and it can end up making a bigger belly bulge.  If you are targeting your tummy, all that fat can end up spilling over the waist band and giving you an extra roll.  Don’t buy the shapers too small or to tight. Silkies Hosiery has a new product-- Sculptz® No-Roll Firm Control Shortz.  It looks great and I’d love to hear a review if anyone tries it.   If you have a large bust you may be thinking about a minimizer bra.  You could end up with arm pit bulge if you aren’t careful.  I think it’s better to support your girls and make the most of them.  Good bridal lingerie is designed to do that.

Panty hose are a potential nightmare.  I hate them because they are so uncomfortable and I wear them only as a last resort.  Control top pantyhose can squeeze your tummy in but watch out for the waistband overhang.  Make sure they fit properly.  Buy a few pairs and make sure they are comfortable enough to wear for the entire evening.  Hosiery to match your wedding day (and night) lingerie can also be a chance to splurge—try some silk ones or hose with seams to make yourself feel special.  I like thigh highs but if you have thinner legs (as I do) you may actually have a problem keeping them up so practice at home before your wedding day.

Bridal salons generally sell what they think you will need under your dress but, depending on where you purchased your dress, you will be paying high retail. Explore all your options.  I find the term “Plus Size Lingerie” rather offensive but for the sake of goolge key word optimization I have put it in here.  I have found that Hips and Curves has a fantastic selection of both practical and feminine, sexy lingerie for women size 12 and up.  They have great stuff for everyday and special occasions including designer bridal lingerie (Tyra Banks) Click on Bridal Lingerie on the left for the wedding collection.  If you have a large bust this site may be particularly helpful since department stores often stop at a C or D cup.  For your wedding night also check out Gowns and Peignoirs and Designer Lingerie. Avenue does not have the largest collection for size 14 and up but what they do have is good quality and very pretty.
